Sudan’s El Burhan Confirms Readiness to Cease Hostilities Under Conditions
Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan announced his readiness to halt fighting in Sudan under specific conditions during the Arab Summit in Cairo. He reaffirmed Sudan’s support for Palestinian independence and outlined measures for stabilizing areas previously occupied by the RSF, asserting the importance of political transition toward civilian governance and free elections.
In a recent address at the Arab Summit in Cairo, Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, expressed his willingness to cease hostilities when specific conditions are met. He reiterated Sudan’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, advocating for an independent Palestinian state defined by the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, while rejecting any displacement of Palestinians.
El Burhan emphasized Sudan’s support for initiatives aimed at protecting Palestinian rights and rebuilding Gaza. On domestic matters, he highlighted the Sudanese Armed Forces’ progress in stabilizing previously RSF-occupied areas and accused the RSF of human rights violations and undermining Sudan’s sovereignty through foreign agendas.
The General articulated Sudan’s readiness to halt military actions contingent upon the RSF’s withdrawal from occupied territories, the lifting of the siege on El Fasher and Darfur cities, and their regrouping for disarmament. He also foregrounded the government’s roadmap for civil and constitutional progress, which includes forming a civilian government and initiating an inclusive dialogue leading to free elections.
In closing, El Burhan acknowledged the support of Arab nations for Sudan’s sovereignty and praised the Arab League’s commitment to the stability of Sudan. Radio Dabanga reached out to the RSF for their response to these statements.
Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan’s address at the Arab Summit underscores Sudan’s strategic position on international issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, while reflecting a commitment to internal stability and reconciliation efforts. His proposed conditions for ceasing hostilities reveal a calculated approach to governance and military action, aiming for a structured transition toward civilian rule and national unity. The recognition of support from Arab nations highlights the importance of diplomatic backing in Sudan’s pursuit of internal stability.
