Muslim Media Practitioners Collaborate with Chief Imam of Benin for Accurate Islamic Reporting

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Edo State chapter, visited the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatah Enabulele, to discuss potential collaborations aimed at enhancing accurate reporting of Islamic issues. The initiative aims to establish a robust relationship between the MMPN and the Imam’s office, combating misinformation about Islam while promoting positive narratives regarding the Benin Muslim community and Islam as a whole.

During the meeting, Chief Imam Enabulele highlighted the significant role of Muslim media practitioners in fostering these efforts. He stated, “I agree with you that we need to work together. Your coming at this period is timely. This collaboration is very strategic because the media is very key in whatever we do.” He also underscored the need for involving other essential Islamic stakeholders, such as the League of Imams and the Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs, in these collective efforts.

Discussion points also included the ongoing Ramadan season, which Imam Enabulele emphasized as a period for self-reflection and community support. He urged Muslims to demonstrate kindness and share their blessings with the less fortunate, reiterating the importance of prayer and good deeds throughout the holy month.

Mallam Abdullah Abdulkadir, the Acting President of MMPN, informed that the association, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 1997, aims to collaborate with the Chief Imam to ensure impactful progress for Islam in the region. Abdulkadir articulated the goal of addressing the persistent issues of misinformation and misrepresentation faced by Muslims, while promoting the positive contributions of Muslim leaders to societal development.

Both the MMPN and the Chief Imam’s office expressed their dedication to fostering a better understanding of Islam and facilitating impactful Muslim community engagement, particularly during Ramadan and beyond.
