Saudi Cabinet Affirms Support for Palestine and Strengthens Bilateral Relations with Lebanon
The Saudi Cabinet has supported the Arab League’s decisions regarding the Palestinian issue, including rejecting their displacement and advocating for humanitarian aid access. They addressed the importance of Lebanon’s sovereignty following discussions with President Aoun. Additionally, initiatives for housing support and major development projects, like the Sports Boulevard, were reviewed in alignment with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The Saudi Cabinet has publicly endorsed the decisions reached during the extraordinary Arab League summit in Cairo, particularly emphasizing the rejection of the displacement of Palestinians. The ministers reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The adopted summit statement also called for the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in Palestinian territories.
In their weekly session led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Cabinet condemned Israel’s suspension of humanitarian aid into Gaza. They called upon the international community to respond effectively to these serious violations and ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need, activating international accountability mechanisms.
The Cabinet addressed the joint statement following President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Riyadh, underscoring the significance of fully implementing the Taif Agreement, which concluded the Lebanese civil war in 1989, and emphasized international resolutions regarding Lebanon’s sovereignty, the need to restrict weapons to the state, and support for the Lebanese army.
Acknowledging the importance of socio-economic initiatives, the Cabinet reiterated its commitment to enhancing social services and adequate housing for families in need. The Jood Regions campaign aims to deliver over 10,000 housing units across the Kingdom, with support from King Salman and the crown prince contributing a substantial donation towards this initiative.
The Cabinet also reviewed significant development projects to bolster comprehensive growth in the Kingdom, highlighting the progress of the Sports Boulevard project in Riyadh. This initiative, now 40 percent complete, is part of Saudi Vision 2030’s Quality-of-Life Program and aims to make Riyadh more livable by promoting outdoor activities and environmental sustainability.
In summary, the Saudi Cabinet’s recent session affirmed its strong support for the Palestinian cause and cooperation with Lebanon. It recognized the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, while reinforcing local initiatives to enhance housing and social services within Saudi Arabia. The progression of key development projects, such as the Sports Boulevard, reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving its Vision 2030 goals.
