Gachagua Asserts GEMA Communities’ Influence in Kenya’s Political Future

He reassured his supporters about their substantial numbers, which he believes are sufficient for a successful campaign in the 2027 elections.

The former deputy president directed his criticism at President William Ruto, suggesting that Ruto’s political survival now depends on his relationship with Odinga. He remarked, “Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” or “Raila is Ruto’s life support machine right now. If he goes out, Ruto is finished,” foreseeing a challenging journey for Ruto’s re-election bid.

Gachagua also indicated that with a united GEMA, they could maintain political leadership for the next century, stating, “If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years.” His comments emerge amid rising speculation concerning his political aspirations and connections with opposition members, hinting at a desire to collaborate with Odinga to unseat Ruto.

In a recent dialogue with Kamba radio stations, Gachagua expressed uncertainty regarding Raila Odinga’s motives, commenting, “I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice whether he wants to be with Ruto and water down his political legacy or join the side of liberating this country.” He further indicated that the Gen Z voters, crucial in the 2022 elections, would not back Ruto in 2027.

In an effort to establish a formidable opposition coalition, Gachagua has engaged in discussions with prominent political figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa.
