Egypt Calls for Gaza Reconstruction With Palestinian Presence

CAIRO – On February 13, 2025, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of initiating early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, ensuring that the Palestinian people remain on their land. In a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris, he discussed Egypt’s commitment to solidifying the ceasefire agreement and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

Abdelatty further stressed the urgent need for establishing an independent Palestinian state through the implementation of the two-state solution, as a pathway to lasting peace in the region. He expressed Egypt’s unwavering rejection of US-Israeli plans that aim to displace Palestinians from Gaza, particularly in light of recent proposals by US President Donald Trump that suggest relocating residents to Egypt and Jordan.

Both Egypt and Jordan have categorically opposed the notion of forced displacement, asserting that reconstruction efforts in Gaza must occur with the Palestinian population remaining on their ancestral land. Recently, Egypt announced plans to present a detailed reconstruction strategy for the Gaza Strip, aligned with the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
