Azerbaijan’s Interference in Armenia-Turkey Normalization Process Raises Concerns

Armenian Speaker Alen Simonyan warned that Azerbaijan is attempting to interfere with the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey. On Tuesday, Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan expressed concerns regarding Azerbaijan’s attempts to influence the normalization processes between Armenia and Turkey. He emphasized that these processes are distinct and should not be linked, urging Turkey to maintain a separate stance. Simonyan lamented that Azerbaijan has effectively taken Armenia-Turkey relations “hostage,” attempting to exert its influence over this critical diplomatic issue. He stated, “This is very bad, and I think the respective Turkish officials also understand this.”

Furthermore, Simonyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to fostering peace, outlining the nation’s readiness to continue efforts towards reconciliation with Turkey. He expressed hope that Turkey would recognize Armenia’s peace initiatives and reciprocate with a more defined expression of its position. He stated, “We hope that upon seeing these steps Turkiye will likewise start to express its stance more clearly.”
