Qatar Warns of Security Risks Due to Incomplete Gaza Ceasefire Implementation

The State of Qatar has warned of potential security threats if provisions of the Gaza ceasefire are not fully implemented. Permanent Representative Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah emphasized Qatar’s commitment to mediation and the importance of a credible political process for Palestinian self-determination. She also expressed hopes for a new phase in Syria’s political landscape, supporting human rights and accountability.

Geneva: The State of Qatar has issued a warning regarding the potential consequences of failing to implement all provisions of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the suggested forced transfers, and the increasing Israeli attacks in the West Bank. These actions could significantly threaten the security and stability of both the Middle East and the broader global community.

This statement was presented by Her Excellency Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council’s general debate. Her Excellency highlighted Qatar’s commitment since the outbreak of Israeli aggression to mediate efforts leading to a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

Dr. Al Muftah expressed hopes that successful implementation of the ceasefire agreement would facilitate a credible political process aimed at achieving a comprehensive peace for the Palestinian cause, securing the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and their independent state based on 1967 borders.

Furthermore, Her Excellency condemned the unprecedented acts of genocide and gross human rights violations resulting from recent Israeli aggression in Gaza, emphasizing that the devastating repercussions will endure for an indeterminate period. She also acknowledged the efforts of the international community to address these issues.

In addition, she congratulated the Syrian people on their revolutionary victories and expressed hope that these developments would mark the commencement of a new phase fulfilling their aspirations while ensuring accountability for past violations. Dr. Al Muftah endorsed the restructuring of the Syrian state aimed at fostering stability and meeting the basic needs of its populace.

She welcomed the Syrian National Dialogue Conference as a significant stride toward enhancing national consensus and facilitating a peaceful transfer of power. Furthermore, she urged the international community to provide ongoing support for Syria, advocating for the lifting of sanctions and technical assistance from human rights mechanisms to aid the transitional government in promoting and protecting human rights.

In summary, the State of Qatar has raised critical concerns regarding the Gaza ceasefire’s implementation and the broader implications of ongoing violence in the region. Qatar emphasizes its commitment to mediation efforts and upholding Palestinian rights, while also calling for support for Syria as it seeks stability and justice. The international community’s engagement is deemed essential for these objectives to be realized.
