Despite the aggressive response from security forces utilizing sticks and batons, Wamid vowed that protests would persist at the West Qurna 1 site, as they had previously done at West Qurna 2, insisting that the demonstrators would not retreat until their demands were satisfactorily addressed.

Earlier this year, protesters similarly obstructed access to the Rumaila oil field in pursuit of job security.
