CARICOM Urges Venezuela to Cease Aggressive Actions Against Guyana

This statement comes in response to an incident that occurred on March 1, where Venezuela’s actions were deemed aggressive and contrary to established international law, including the stipulations set forth in the 2023 Argyle Declaration.

The Argyle Declaration emphasizes the mutual commitment between the leaders of Venezuela and Guyana to avoid using or threatening force in resolving their disputes, specifically regarding the Essequibo region. CARICOM asserts, “This provocative incident of 1 March 2025 initiated by Venezuela runs counter to the agreed commitment of CARICOM and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to ensure that the Caribbean region remains a Zone of Peace.”
