Atiku and Governors Urge Muslims to Pray for Peace During Ramadan
Atiku Abubakar and several governors have urged Muslims to pray for peace and unity in Nigeria during Ramadan. They emphasized compassion, governmental support, and individual responsibility in addressing economic hardships faced by citizens. The messages from leaders call for community solidarity and prayer during this sacred month, underlining the significance of Ramadan in promoting kindness and hope for a better future.
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections, along with various governors and the Federal Executive Council (FEC), has appealed to Muslims to pray for a peaceful and united Nigeria during the holy month of Ramadan. Notable figures including former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and Governors Seyi Makinde, Monday Okpebholo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ademola Adeleke, Ahmadu Fintiri, and Bassey Otu have expressed similar sentiments.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, extended warm greetings to Muslims as they began Ramadan. Atiku emphasized the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians and called on all levels of government to take definitive action to alleviate the hardships experienced by citizens during and after this fasting period. “I urge that we remember Nigeria in our prayers and call on governments to provide the necessary succour that will ease the pains in the lives of Nigerians during the Ramadan fasting and beyond,” he stated.
Saraki encouraged the Muslim community to observe Ramadan with acts of compassion, kindness, and generosity towards the less fortunate. He congratulated the Muslim faithful on the commencement of Ramadan, urging them to embody and manifest the teachings of Islam throughout the month. The FEC also conveyed greetings to Muslims as Ramadan began, with Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume stressing the importance of reflecting on Ramadan’s lessons.
Governor Makinde encouraged Muslims worldwide to renew their commitment to God during this sacred month. He urged them to engage in prayers for the betterment of both the state and the nation. Governor Okpebholo echoed this call, urging Muslims in Edo State to pray for peace as Ramadan commenced.
Governor Sanwo-Olu shared his warm wishes with Muslims and described Ramadan as an important time for reflection and acts of kindness. In addition, Governor Otu of Cross Rivers State called on Muslims to continue praying for national unity and peace during this holy time. Minister Wike also emphasized the significance of offering prayers for the country’s peaceful co-existence during Ramadan.
Governor Adeleke highlighted the need for prayers for sustained peace and integrity in national politics, while Adamawa State Governor Fintiri urged Muslim faithful to pray for the unity and peace of both the state and the country. Their collective appeals showcase a strong desire for unity and peaceful coexistence as Ramadan unfolds, emphasizing community solidarity and individual responsibility.
The calls from prominent political leaders and governors during Ramadan emphasize the importance of unity, peace, and compassion among Nigerians. Their messages reflect a shared commitment to fostering a harmonious society as individuals engage in prayer and reflection. The concerns regarding economic hardship and national stability resonate throughout these statements, inviting Muslims to engage in both individual and collective supplications for the betterment of the nation during this holy month.
