Sudan Military Allies Claim Interception of RSF Supply Shipment Amid Humanitarian Crisis
Forces allied with Sudan’s military claim to have intercepted a substantial supply of military equipment intended for the RSF in North Darfur. The RSF denies these allegations and contends that the Joint Forces have misleadingly reported the incident. The conflict has contributed to a severe humanitarian situation, with reports of cholera outbreaks, widespread displacement, and starvation risks. The UN warns of increasingly dire consequences unless significant assistance is provided.
The fighting factions allied with Sudan’s military announced the interception of a considerable cache of military supplies meant for the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Darfur. The RSF, however, refuted the claim, stating that the Joint Forces’ assertion is “incorrect and mere lies,” as reported by Reuters, which was unable to verify the accuracy of the conflicting reports.
The Joint Forces, composed of former rebel groups aligned with the Sudanese military, accused the RSF of supplying ammunition for the bombardment of civilian areas in Al-Fasher, the last military stronghold in Darfur, and also in Omdurman and displacement camps. Recently, at least 70 individuals have succumbed to cholera, according to Save the Children, highlighting the humanitarian crisis in southern Sudan amidst the ongoing conflict.
The RSF has conducted numerous assaults throughout North Darfur, including targeting the famine-stricken Zamzam camp. The RSF denies allegations of indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas and accuses the Joint Forces of employing human shields in their operations. The intercepted convoy reportedly included an extensive array of military provisions, including thousands of artillery rounds and various rockets.
In summary, the conflict in Sudan continues to escalate, with serious humanitarian implications. Recent military interceptions highlight ongoing tensions between the Sudanese army and the RSF, amidst a growing crisis exacerbated by famine and disease. Human rights officials warn of impending catastrophe unless urgent international action is taken to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population. The situation in Sudan remains dire, necessitating immediate global attention and intervention.
