Oman Calls for Urgent Action on Palestinian Rights Amid Gaza Crisis
Oman has criticized the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report on Palestinian territories, calling for the unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza and the upholding of Palestinian rights. During the Human Rights Council session, Oman highlighted the report’s inadequacies in reflecting the suffering in Gaza and called for a more balanced approach to addressing humanitarian needs.
The Sultanate of Oman has expressed significant criticism regarding the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, underscoring the need for adherence to established human rights standards. Oman has called for the unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza and firmly rejected any efforts that undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
During the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, acknowledged the report’s findings but insisted that they do not fully capture the severe suffering of Gaza’s residents. He noted the immense pressures faced by organizations like UNRWA and criticized certain Western nations for frequently overlooking Palestinian rights, thus demonstrating a troubling selectivity in human rights advocacy.
Additionally, Ambassador Al-Khanjari highlighted the report’s imbalance in portraying the significant disparities between the harm endured by Palestinian victims under occupation and the destruction caused by Israeli actions in Gaza. He stressed that calling on the occupying power to allow humanitarian aid is insufficient; such actions are fundamental rights recognized by international law. He urged international institutions to enhance their efforts to address this prolonged humanitarian crisis.
In summary, the Sultanate of Oman has called for an assertive stance regarding Palestinian rights, emphasizing the urgent need for the withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza. It has criticized the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report for not properly representing the suffering of the Palestinian people and urged the international community to take more balanced and comprehensive actions.
