Zambia Launches Integrated Mining Information System to Transform Sector

Zambia has launched the Zambia Integrated Mining Information System (ZIMIS), a digital platform designed to improve the mining sector’s transparency and efficiency. Inaugurated by Minister Paul C. Kabuswe, ZIMIS aims to streamline licensing, combat corruption, and align with national production goals. It is expected to enhance Zambia’s position in global mineral markets and drive socio-economic development.

The Zambia Integrated Mining Information System (ZIMIS) has been officially launched as a revolutionary digital platform aimed at transforming the nation’s mining industry. This significant initiative was inaugurated by Honorable Paul C. Kabuswe, the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, on 27th February 2025, and is a strategic move to enhance transparency, efficiency, and sustainable development under the guidance of President Hakainde Hichilema.

ZIMIS replaces outdated mining management systems with the sophisticated Government Service Bus (GSB) platform. This modernized system is designed to streamline the mining licensing process, curb corruption, and foster enhanced collaboration among various government agencies, showcasing a clear commitment to best practices in mining governance.

The system’s objectives align with the National Mineral Resources Development Policy, targeting an increase in copper production to 3 million metric tonnes by 2031.
