UN Security Council Reinforces Commitment to Support Libya’s Stability

The UN Security Council has reiterated its strong backing for the Libyan people, emphasizing the need for an inclusive political process led by Libyans. Concerns about instability, security sector reform, and humanitarian issues regarding migrants were highlighted, with calls for international support and collaboration with regional organizations to address these challenges and prepare for forthcoming elections.

On Thursday, the UN Security Council released a presidential statement advocating for international backing to establish lasting peace in Libya, which continues to endure instability and violence from conflicting authorities and armed factions. The Council expressed significant apprehensions regarding the security and political situation in the nation, emphasizing the pressing need for collective efforts towards resolution.

The Council reaffirmed its unwavering support for a comprehensive, Libyan-led political process, facilitated by the United Nations, where Libyans can determine their governance through free elections.
