Saudi Arabia and Egypt Condemn Israeli Strikes on Syria
Saudi Arabia and Egypt condemned Israel’s airstrikes in Syria, calling for international intervention to stop these actions. The Saudi Foreign Ministry underscored the Kingdom’s support for Syria, while Egypt emphasized the violations of international law involved in the attacks. Both nations reiterated the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid ongoing military tensions in the region.
Saudi Arabia and Egypt expressed strong condemnation of Israel’s recent airstrikes on Syria in statements issued on Wednesday. The Saudi Foreign Ministry explicitly denounced the bombing of various regions within the Syrian Arab Republic, while affirming the Kingdom’s solidarity with the Syrian government and its citizens. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia urged the international community to take action against what it described as Israel’s destabilizing actions to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry echoed similar sentiments, denouncing the Israeli strikes as systematic escalations and violations of international law. They highlighted that these attacks undermine Syria’s sovereignty and pose a significant challenge to the governance and territorial integrity of the nation. Egypt has called for the United Nations and other international actors to take decisive action to compel Israel to halt its aggressive activities.
Israeli airstrikes targeted locations in the Damascus countryside and Daraa province, raising tensions in the region. The recent military actions by Israel constitute an extension of its occupation of the Golan Heights and reflect the ongoing conflict that has persisted since the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. After the recent governmental changes in Syria, Israel reportedly expanded its controlled areas in the Golan Heights, contravening the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria.
The actions have drawn significant condemnation from both the United Nations and various Arab nations, highlighting the need for renewed international engagement on the issue. Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, who has been in power for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups gained control over Damascus, ending decades of Baath Party rule.
The recent condemnation from Saudi Arabia and Egypt highlights the escalating tensions in the Syrian conflict due to Israel’s airstrikes. Both countries call for international intervention to curb Israel’s actions and restore Syrian sovereignty. The situation emphasizes the need for adherence to international law and the importance of diplomatic efforts to maintain stability in the region.
