Migori County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu has announced a collaboration between local security teams and Tanzanian authorities to combat the influx of counterfeit and illegal products along the border. Migori County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu has announced a partnership between local security agencies and their Tanzanian counterparts aimed at combating counterfeiting and illegal products along the vulnerable common border. He emphasized that the country is suffering revenue losses due to illicit goods crossing the border unchecked. Kisilu highlighted the issue of the ‘panya routes’ that people are using instead of designated crossing points, notably Isebania and Muhuru Bay.

During a meeting at his office, Commissioner Kisilu urged residents of Migori who live near the border to act patriotically and assist in safeguarding the nation against these illegal activities. He stated the importance of being vigilant and described how residents should refrain from aiding in the smuggling of goods that evade scrutiny from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials.

Kisilu mentioned ongoing collaborative efforts with authorities from Tarime, Tanzania, to maintain border security. He reported on successful operations of a crackdown and patrol team that have led to significant seizures, including 200 kilograms of sodium cyanide, a hazardous substance frequently used by miners, and 400 kilograms of explosives.

He expressed appreciation for the dedication of the Migori multi-agency security team in fortifying national borders. Commissioner Kisilu clarified that the focus of these operations is not to target any individuals, but rather to shield the interests of the country from unlawful activities.
