Although we lack food, we have shelter here,” underscoring the grim reality of their choices amid ongoing violence. While M23 announced a unilateral ceasefire, clashes have been reported, with the rebels threatening action in response to violence occurring near Bukavu, emphasizing the tenuous nature of the ceasefire and continued regional instability.
