Action Black Plans U.S. Expansion of Its Unique Fitness Brand

Action Black, a Colombian boutique fitness brand, is expanding in the U.S., starting with New York City. The brand offers a nightclub-inspired workout environment with various fitness modalities, aiming to provide an all-inclusive fitness experience. With plans for further locations in New York, Miami, and other states, Action Black is also ramping up global expansion, targeting numerous international markets.

Action Black, a premier boutique fitness brand from Colombia, is poised for significant expansion in the United States, particularly in New York City. Distinguishing itself with a vibrant, nightclub-inspired atmosphere, the brand embraces the motto, “We’re not a (f*ng) gym. We’re the most revolutionary training model in the world.” The multifaceted group fitness model includes various specialized workout classes such as boxing, strength training, cycling, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) within a single location.

Founded by Wilder Zapata Torres in 2015, Action Black has already established over 20 locations in Colombia, as well as studios in Spain and Mexico, with further endeavors planned in Portugal and Brazil. Its U.S. journey began last year with the launch of its first location in Tribeca, followed by a second in NoMad, showcasing a successful entry into the American fitness market. Executive Oscar Toro, who is overseeing the U.S. expansion, noted, “Everywhere we go, people love it.”

Further expansion plans include a substantial facility in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, set to be roughly four times the size of the Tribeca studio, featuring added amenities such as a lounge and co-working spaces. Additional openings in New York are anticipated in the Financial District and Dumbo. Additionally, a facility is slated to be developed in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood.

Action Black aims to provide a distinctive fitness journey that contrasts with traditional boutique gyms. Each studio is uniquely designed with subdued lighting and vibrant neon accents to enhance the experience. Classes are facilitated by instructors and supplemented by visual screens, allowing members to engage intensely with their workouts and benefit from varied fitness modalities under one roof.

As part of its marketing strategy, Action Black offers a membership priced at $299 per month in the U.S., alongside promotional incentives such as buy-one-get-one-free memberships and free trial sessions. The brand primarily caters to individuals in their 20s to 40s, with a female membership ratio of approximately 70%.

In a highly competitive landscape, Action Black believes its integrated approach to fitness training, combined with a captivating environment, will attract a diverse clientele. Beyond the immediate expansion efforts in New York and Florida, the brand also aims to penetrate other states like North Carolina and Texas. The broader global growth ambition includes a target of establishing 135 gyms worldwide, encompassing ongoing developments in Colombia, Spain, Mexico, and prospective openings in locations like Shenzhen, China, Dubai, and Santiago, Chile. The brand is also exploring markets in London and Germany.

Action Black, a notable fitness brand from Colombia, is strategically expanding into the U.S. market, starting in New York City. With a unique approach that combines a nightclub atmosphere with diverse fitness classes, the brand has seen considerable success both domestically and internationally. Its growth plan targets major American cities while also expanding globally, illustrating its commitment to revolutionizing boutique fitness experiences.
