The Ugandan military reported on Wednesday that Joseph Kony’s spouse and three of his children have been returned to Uganda from the Central African Republic, while Kony himself remains absconded. The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for Kony, who faces 36 charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity stemming from conflicts in Northern Uganda from July 2002 to December 2005. A hearing aimed at confirming these charges is scheduled for September 9. The United States has offered a reward of $5 million for information leading to his arrest.

Kony, known for leading the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), is infamous for his role in abducting children to become soldiers in his armed rebellion against the Ugandan government. Military spokesperson Major General Felix Kulayigye indicated that Kony is believed to be hiding in the Central African Republic.
