Chile Sends Super Puma Helicopter to Assist with Argentinian Wildfires

Chile has deployed an AS332 Super Puma helicopter to support firefighting efforts in Argentina’s Patagonia, specifically in Neuquén province, to combat wildfires that have devastated over 34,000 hectares of forest. The deployment, operated by Ecocopter and Helisul, will last at least 14 days, providing critical assistance to local firefighting teams.

Chile’s National Forest Corporation (CONAF) has deployed an AS332 Super Puma helicopter to assist in combating wildfires in the Patagonia region of Argentina. The helicopter, registered as ZT-RYC, will be operated by Ecocopter and Helisul, having the capability to drop up to 3,500 liters of water at once. This operational effort is specifically targeted toward the province of Neuquén and will extend for a minimum of 14 days.

The deployment follows an extensive wildfire crisis affecting the region, which has already resulted in the destruction of more than 34,000 hectares of forested land. This disaster has significantly impacted Nahuel Huapi National Park in Río Negro, with more than 12,000 hectares affected, as well as 22,000 hectares in Lanín National Park in Neuquén. The situation has been exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, including high temperatures and strong winds.

Francisco Arriagada, the Commercial Manager of Ecocopter and Helisul, stated, “We are deeply concerned by the magnitude of the fires in Argentine Patagonia and we are providing support to protect this valuable ecosystem. We are committed to protecting people, communities, and the environment, which is why we have made the Super Puma and all our experience available to fight the fires in Argentine Patagonia.” Helisul merged with Ecocopter in May of last year.
