Egypt and Malaysia Reject Trump’s Gaza Displacement Proposal

Egypt and Malaysia have condemned President Trump’s proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Egyptian President El-Sisi expressed their rejection of such actions, highlighting ongoing humanitarian needs and reconstruction efforts. They emphasized international solidarity and collaboration in supporting Palestine amidst rising pressure to relocate Gazans.

On Friday, leaders from Egypt and Malaysia voiced their staunch opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to displace Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reported a discussion with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi about the pressing humanitarian issues and reconstruction initiatives in Gaza, emphasizing their united stance against any forced displacement of Palestinian people.

Prime Minister Anwar remarked on social media, stating, “President El-Sisi and I firmly reject any attempt to force Palestinians out from Gaza, as such actions would undermine the Palestinian cause and efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state.” He acknowledged and praised Egypt’s ongoing efforts to provide necessary humanitarian and medical assistance to Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict.

The leaders also highlighted the cooperative efforts of Japan and Malaysia within the East Asia Cooperation for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) initiative, which aims at the reconstruction of Gaza. They stressed that international solidarity is essential for delivering effective and impactful aid to Palestine.

Egypt, responding to the discourse, announced its commitment to a comprehensive plan for Gaza’s reconstruction, which seeks to avoid displacing its inhabitants despite extensive damage inflicted by over fifteen months of Israeli bombardment. Amid growing U.S. pressure, Jordan and Egypt are being urged to accommodate Palestinians following Trump’s controversial suggestion to relocate Gazans and transform the territory into a tourist destination under U.S. control.

The U.S. administration also held discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah, reiterating the call for the relocation of Gazans. This proposal has faced strong condemnation from both the Palestinian population and Arab leaders alike, who firmly oppose the notion of displacing Palestinians or altering the status of their homeland for geopolitical purposes.
