Nigeria Rejects Allegations of Involvement in Niger Pipeline Attack
The Nigerian government has strongly denied allegations of involvement in the December attack on the Niger-Benin oil pipeline, emphasizing its commitment to fighting terrorism and maintaining peaceful relations with Niger and France.
On Saturday, the Federal Government of Nigeria firmly rejected claims from Nigerien officials alleging its involvement in the December 13, 2024, attack on the Niger-Benin oil pipeline located in Gaya, within the Dosso Region of Niger Republic. In a public statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government categorically denied any connection to the Lakurawa terrorist group or cooperation with foreign security forces in the attack.
The diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and Niger Republic were exacerbated by the attack on the oil pipeline, which prompted Nigerien authorities to accuse Nigeria of complicity. Nigeria, a regional power in West Africa, has consistently advocated for peace and stability in the region and maintains cordial relations with various nations, including France. The backdrop of this incident lies in the broader regional issues of terrorism and security, notably concerning terrorist groups that threaten both nations.
In conclusion, Nigeria has unequivocally denied any allegations of its involvement in the pipeline attack and reaffirmed its commitment to combatting terrorism. The Nigerian government emphasizes its dedication to maintaining strong bilateral relations with Niger and dispels claims of foreign military interventions. This response reflects Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to uphold regional stability while rejecting unfounded accusations that could jeopardize its international partnerships.
