Ethiopia and Qatar Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Ethiopia and Qatar have pledged to enhance their bilateral relations during a celebration of Qatar’s National Day in Addis Ababa, acknowledging the strong ties established since the formal diplomatic relationship began in 1995. Both countries aim to expand cooperation across various sectors, supported by a significant presence of Ethiopian expatriates in Qatar and an increase in trade and investment opportunities.
On December 19, 2024, during the 146th Qatar National Day celebrations in Addis Ababa, officials from Ethiopia and Qatar affirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations. Ethiopian Foreign Affairs State Minister, Ambassador Misganu Arga, highlighted the evolving partnership rooted in extensive people-to-people connections, revealing that thousands of Ethiopians reside and work in Qatar.
Ambassador Misganu stated, “The relationship between Ethiopian and Qatar is cemented with important people to people ties. Currently, thousands of Ethiopians are working and living in Qatar. The Government of Ethiopia is appreciative of the support that the Qatari Government is providing for Ethiopians living and working in the state of Qatar.”
Since the diplomatic ties were officially established in 1995, the cooperation between the two nations has broadened significantly through high-level visits, leading to the signing of multiple agreements aimed at enhancing trade and investment. The State Minister noted, “There is a great deal of potential to grow the trade and investment opportunities.”
Qatar’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Saad Mubarak Al-Naimi, reiterated his country’s resolve to elevate the relationship further, acknowledging the ongoing expansion in various sectors since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He pledged ongoing commitment to bolster collaboration benefiting both nations.
