Iran and Lebanon Discuss Ceasefire Agreement Amid Regional Tensions
On a recent phone call, Iranian Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri discussed the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire. They praised each other’s roles in achieving peace and emphasized the need for serious regional coordination. Iran’s support for Lebanon was acknowledged, and plans for the Lebanese army to regain control of territories were outlined under the ceasefire agreement.
On Saturday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf engaged in a discussion with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri regarding the recent ceasefire established between Israel and Lebanon. During their phone call, they addressed the current situation in Lebanon post-ceasefire, which commenced early Wednesday. Qalibaf commended Berri for his significant contributions to achieving this vital truce amid challenging circumstances.
The Iranian Speaker emphasized Iran’s steadfast support of Lebanon’s government, parliament, and people, as well as the resistance, while cautioning about Israel’s potential violations of the ceasefire. He highlighted the recent actions of terrorist groups in Syria as aligned with Israeli aspirations, suggesting a serious approach is necessary for regional stability.
In their dialogue, Berri acknowledged Iran’s generous assistance, crediting it for helping Lebanon successfully resist Israeli aggression. He characterized Israel as a “brutal predator” and described the current conditions in southern Lebanon along with the Beqaa and Dahieh regions as favorable. The ceasefire agreement stipulates that the Lebanese army will regain control of its territory within 60 days, with a gradual Israeli withdrawal enabling civilians to return home.
The discussions between the speakers followed a ceasefire that was implemented to end hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, which had escalated for unclear reasons. The ceasefire, viewed as a crucial step to restore peace, aims to secure Lebanon’s territorial integrity while ensuring Israeli withdrawals. This dialogue reflects the broader geopolitical tensions in the West Asia region and the influence of Iran as a supporter of Lebanon.
In conclusion, the meaningful conversation between the Iranian and Lebanese parliament speakers highlights the importance of regional cooperation in maintaining the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Their mutual support suggests an alliance bolstering Lebanon’s resistance against external pressures. The situation remains delicate, necessitating ongoing vigilance against potential violations, especially from hostile entities operating within the West Asia region.
