Sudanese Army Calls on South Sudan to Block Fleeing RSF Fighters

The Sudanese army has urged South Sudan to prevent fleeing RSF fighters from crossing the border after retaking the city of Sinjah. Colonel Abbadi Al-Tahir Al-Zain emphasized the army’s intention to pursue RSF remnants, who suffered extensive losses during the battle. On November 23, 2024, the Sudanese army officially appealed to the government of South Sudan to prevent the transit of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters fleeing from the recently recaptured city of Sinjah. After experiencing significant clashes, the Sudanese army was able to regain control of Sinjah, the capital of Sennar state, through the mobilization of troops from several regions, including Al Dinder, Al Suki, Sennar, and Blue Nile, reclaiming numerous towns in the process. Colonel Abbadi Al-Tahir Al-Zain, the commander in charge of the operation, stated in a video message, “Our message to the government of South Sudan is not to allow them to cross the border. We will pursue them wherever they go.”

The RSF reportedly faced substantial losses in personnel and military resources during the conflict in Sinjah. Despite the army’s success in retaking the city, the RSF continues to maintain control over strategic areas, including Al Dali and Al Mazmoum near the South Sudan border, as well as Abu Hajar and Wad Al-Nil in Sennar state, along with several locations in the Al-Tadamon locality within the Blue Nile region.
