Set to expand its membership starting January 1, 2024, BRICS is viewed as a strategic counterbalance to Western-dominated economic forums such as the G7. She stated, “politically, we do not want to be hitched to anyone. We are far more interested in Mercosur than in becoming a member of BRICS”.
